How the current Studio works

From one scene to an editable comic draft.

Comics Maker separates free story planning from credit-based image generation. The editor keeps the beat plan, generated images, panel layout, and speech bubbles together in the browser.

Plan the scene before spending credits.

Write one scene in plain language, choose a layout, then use Plan to split it into visible beats. Story planning runs in the browser; image generation starts only when you choose Generate or Build.

Generate one panel or the full layout.

Generate works on the selected panel. Build queues one image job for every slot in the active layout. A 3-panel strip queues three jobs; a 2x2 page queues four.

Apply results and finish the readable page.

Completed images appear in Output. Apply or drag an image to a panel, move its crop, then add and position speech bubbles on the canvas.

Export a handoff, not a print-ready comic.

Export JSON downloads the current prompt, beats, layout, panels, bubble text, and character notes. It is useful for project handoff and recovery; it is not a flattened PNG, PDF, or print package.

Limits worth knowing before generation.

These are current product boundaries, not prompt-writing problems.

  • Panel generation receives the selected character name and text description. An uploaded character image is visible in the workspace, but its pixels are not currently sent as an image reference to the panel-generation API.
  • The image prompt asks the model not to draw captions or speech bubbles. Add readable dialogue with the Studio bubble editor after the art is generated.
  • Failed image jobs retry up to two attempts. When the final attempt fails, the server returns the credits used by that job to the account ledger.
  • Long plots weaken panel specificity. Plan one scene or page at a time, and repeat concrete clothing, setting, and prop details when continuity matters.
